Travel to Lower Largo, Fife, Scotland

Fife and Lower Largo can easly be reached from Europe by flying to Edinburgh or by using one of two ferry crossings:
  • Zeebrugge - Rosyth ferry with Superfast Ferries  is very convenient as the port of Rosyth is only about 45 minutes drive from Lower Largo
  • Amsterdam - Newcastle ferry with DFDS is also a good option although it takes about three hours to drive from Newcastle to the cottage. The route from Newcastle is very scenic, especially if you follow the A68. It also takes you through Edinburgh and across the Forth Road Bridge.
Edinburgh International Airport is about one hour's drive from Lower Largo and has the usual selection of car hire firms.
In addition to Lufthansa, Air France, KLM and SAS, the following low-cost carriers fly to Edinburgh.
  •  EasyJest   plane  fly to Edinburgh from Belfast, Bristol, East Midland, London Stansted, Gatwick or Luton and also from Barcelona, Dortmund, Geneva, Madrid, Milan and Munich.
  •  Ryanair   fly to Edinburgh from Bremen,Dublin, and Frankfurt (Hahn).
  •  Germanwings   fly to Edinburgh from Berlin, Cologne, Dresden, Leipzig, and Munich.
  •  TUIFly   fly to Newcastle (no longer to Edinburgh!) from Hannover.

It is quite possible to reach the cottage by train and bus but you really do need a car to make the most of your visit.

Directions to Lower Largo:
Take the road out of Edinbugh heading north for the Forth Road Bridge and stay on the motorway (M90) till the exit heading for Kircaldy on the A92. After about 20 miles, there is a big roundabout. Take the exit to the right heading for Kircaldy. Follow the signs for Leven and St.Andews (A915). Lundin Links is about 3 miles beyond Leven. When you reach Lundin Links, turn right off the main road towards Lower Largo. Watch out for the bank on the corner and a signpost for the harbour and other attractions. Follow the road - it starts to descend towards the harbour, when you see the signpost for Lower Largo you are almost there in Drummochy Road.
